Norman, Wood, Kendrick & Turner and its predecessors have represented clients throughout Alabama since the 1930’s. Following service in World War II, Robert D. Norman and Marshall Fitzpatrick joined the firm and created the mold for what the firm has become. Today the firm represents insurance interests, as well as self-insured entities in a broad spectrum of litigation. Our lawyers have always been active trial lawyers.
Mr. Wood (retired) was a member of the faculty of the Defense Counsel Trial Academy in Boulder, Colorado, and he was elected as a director of both the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute. Mr. Kendrick is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Mr. Turner is a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel. Mr. Williams is Board Certified by the American Board of Certification in Business Bankruptcy Law and also in Creditor’s Rights Law. The late Mr. Norman was a past president of the Birmingham Bar Association and the International Association of Defense Counsel.
The size of our firm dictates that all of our lawyers establish and maintain the highest skills and qualities necessary to defend the most complex cases. We are able to control litigation costs and expenses by assigning only the necessary lawyers to each file. The firm sends each lawyer who practices civil defense to the International Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy.
The firm defends suits throughout the state involving medical malpractice claims, product liability, industrial accidents, and construction matters. The firm also handles all types of casualty, fire and property insurance claims; transportation liability; asbestos and toxic tort claims; coverage issues; fidelity and surety; professional errors and omissions; bankruptcy; creditor’s rights; liquor liability, and commercial litigation. Our attorneys have experience in complex and mass tort litigation. This litigation takes us to all counties in the state and to the three Federal District Courts. We are admitted in the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
We are committed to advancing the interests of our clients beyond defending litigation they assign us. This commitment is evidenced by our high level of participation in professional associations. Lawyers in our firm are participating members of the International Association of Defense Counsel, Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, American Board of Trial Advocates, Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, Defense Research Institute, American Bankruptcy Institute, Turnaround Management Association, Birmingham Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Alabama State Bar. Our attorneys have authored papers appearing in various defense publications and speak at Continuing Legal Education Programs.
The Firm is a member of The Harmonie Group, an affiliation of independent law firms throughout the country. Harmonie links us to other leading law firms and provides us and our clients ready access to legal services in other jurisdictions. We are also affiliated through Harmonie with Canadian Litigation Counsel which is a network of Canadian firm with similar practices.
